thanks, dude

i think "staff infection" is wonderful. there is a contest to name the paper and i am liking your other ideas for that - i had a great mental picture of you looking up lab related things on the internet. thanks so much for the help!

Column Ideas

These are really cheesy ideas, but I think you need to somehow make the title relate to the lab somehow... and I can't quite put my finger on what the name should be, but you could do some kind of word play on "throat culture" and do _____ culture, (lab culture?) since culture can mean multiple things. Or something about profiles... like lipid profiles, but a better word than lipid. But once again, the "profile" part might be good since it means different things. Or ______ sample? I just want you to know that I actually went to a website about labs to get words to use here. That's how nerdy I am!

I always liked the name of a musical group made up of the secretaries and various pastors at dad's church, it was called Staff Infection. I thought it was funny.

We've got to think of something cool like that!

tofu?

i need to try some of this stir-fry con tofu. will you make me some someday? do you use the wet or dry?

another day of work and i am definitely not ready to go on our little trip tomorrow. i did a load of laundry this morning, but haven't done much else in preparation. laura from aurora and i went to old chicago last night and after that i pretty much just went to bed. go ahead, call me a lazy bum. now that you see the scattered tendencies of my brain on this friday morning, i will leave you with a little assignment. kimberly are going to have a column in our little lab e-paper and it needs a name. we are to interview a different person each week and then write some stories about them - so that they get a whole week of being the feature person of the lab. so - our column needs a name - and i am looking to you for any suggestions.

hope your fridays are going well and pril i am very much looking forward to seeing you this evening.

Tofu!

I don't know if either of you do this--but I thought I'd share for the sake of interest.

I find when I'm eating things that are in combinations, I always eat my least favorite parts first and save the best parts for last. For instance, this morning I mixed yogurt with banana-nut granola and blueberries. Even though I like blueberries, I like the granola even better so I eat all the blueberries first.

Then today at lunch I made stir-fry--and realized halfway through that I was eating everything BUT the tofu to save it for last because it's the best!

What a funny turnaround from my original opinions of tofu!

fruit flies

Our apartment seems to have come about a fruit fly problem. I made the salsa/jar/funnel thing that you talked about on the phone this morning (a jar with salsa at the bottom and a paper funnel on top--supposedly the flies are too stupid to figure out how to get OUT of the jar) and they're flying around it like crazy! I would guess there are at least 20 in the vicinity of the jar. Anyway, the flies are also apparently too stupid to get IN. I've decided to try to be as patient as possible and wait at least another hour. There are 4-5 flies inside the jar and the rest are hanging out on the outside of the paper. Do you think they'll go in anytime soon?

I already cleaned the kitchen today, and cleaned out my fish's bowl; now I just need to clean my own room and do some reading for class. The problem is that I would rather walk down to the public library and check out books about knitting. I think I need to either read or clean before I let myself go there!

Anyway... today I have to get ready to go to Illinois so that I can leave as soon as work is over tomorrow!

Wish me and the fruit flies the best. :-)

echo, echo, echo

what should i do??

here i am (at work) and things keep popping up that i don't know what i am supposed to do about. and then that puts me in the dilemna of whether to call someone at home or wait until morning. i hate having so many questions for the person coming in here first thing in the morning and, on the other hand, i don't want to call anyone at home - especially if they are sleeping. hmmm.
on a more positive note...i was proud of myself earlier for getting blood out of an "impossible" lady. she had bruises all over from where people had tried before. i found a vein in her foot and had the blood coming out, but then i accidentally pulled the needle back too far and it came out of her foot. so - i tried one of those little tiny veins that you can see on the inside of your wrist and HOORAY! there it came. that is only the second time i have used one of the veins there - they are so tiny and close to the surface and there are those tendons underneath that scare me - none the less, i was successful. and therefore pleased with myself.
gotta go now. so i guess i am leaving you just with these little tidbits about work. sorry for the unexciting-ness of this "post."
love you both!
